Founder Stuart Cameron is a qualified Dispensing Optician and has worked in Optics for over 20 years. Stuart has worked for Dolland and Aitchison, Specsavers and Boots. He then formed a partnership, which built up a chain of 14 outlets called Specdeals. This chain was to sold to Optical Express in 2001. Years of experience meant that Stuart was able to analyse the optical market and he identified 2 main problems that people have with Opticians and buying glasses
The reality is that Optician's overheads these
days are very expensive. Whereas 30 years ago most Opticians were on the
corner of your local main street or up a stair now its big business and
most multiples are in fancy shopping centres. In order to recoup expensive costs Opticians increase the price of their product - your glasses!. Opticians work for the NHS and have professional fees paid to them by the NHS.
